Quick Overview

The most basic of the DAESSY Wheelchair Mounting Assemblies is the DAESSY Rigid Mount with Bent-tube. This mount consists of one run of stainless steel tube bent at ninety degrees connected to the wheelchair by a Frame Clamp Assembly. A DAESSY Quick Release Base connects your technology to the bent-tube. The pole can be held securely in three positions - "in use", "egress" and "stowed" via simple colar and pin arrangment, with the pin found on the Frame Clamp Outer Piece. The colar (Index Colar or IC1) also sets the vertical tube height. This mount is not recommended for tilting seat systems with tilt more than 15 degrees or for installations angled beyond 15 degrees from vertical.

Details

The simplest of the DAESSY Wheelchair Mounting Assemblies is the DAESSY Rigid Mount with Bent-tube. It is also excellent at holding and positioning your valuable technology reliably, repeatably and with assurance.

This mount consists of ONE length of stainless steel tube, bent at a right-angle.  The "Bent-tube" length creates the Horizontal and Vertical sections of this DAESSY Rigid Mount, each can be specified if required.  It's simplicity is also a downside due to the vertical and horizontal legnths being oart of the one tube, such that any twisting of the vertical tube around it's axis will swing the horizontal section in an arc accordingly.

For that reason, offset cannot be included in the vertical section of the Bent-tube meaning it can only run in straight lines from it's attachment point on the frame of the wheelchair. If there is a tray being used which must be navigated around, we'd suggest looking at the DAESSY Rigid Mount which has individual tubes, including an offset vertical pole which can be used to advantage.

If there's no obstructions in the way above the Frame Clamp attachment point, then the DAESSY Rigid Mount with Bent-tube can be a very effective mount.

Attachment

This Bent-tube is supported on the wheelchair by a Frame Clamp Assembly permanently attached to either the left or right side of the wheelchair.

The Bent-tube can be lifted slightly until a positioning pin in the Frame Clamp Assembly is cleared and then the poles can rotated away from the wheelchair occupant, positioning it at 90º increments

  • In use
  • Egress
  • and Stowed.

The Frame Clamp Assembly is composed of a Frame Clamp Inner Piece and a Frame Clamp Outer Piece attached to each other. The Inner Piece is clamped to the wheelchair frame while the Outer Piece holds the Vertical Tube.

Tiliting Seat Wheelchairs

There is another version of the DAESSY Rigid Mount with Bent-tube - the Locking version (coded ROP) which is better suited for tilting seat wheelchairs. If the wheelchair incorporates a tilting seat and it is used regularly in tilt beyond 15 degrees, then the Locking version (ROP) of the DAESSY Rigid Mount with Bent-tube is to be used. this standard variant is not recommended for tiliting seat wheelchairs under the above conditions.

Nor should this kit be installed with vertical pole lean beyond 15 degrees, either forward of backwards. Again, if there is a need to angle the vertical section of the Bent-tube more than 15 degrees from vertical, the DAESSY Rigid Mount with Bent-tube (Locking) mount must be used.

Frame Clamp Outer Piece - notice the little pinUnivIndex Clampersal Frame Clamp Outer Piece and Index Clamp

An Index Clamp secured around the lower end of the Vertical Tube engages with a positioning pin on the Frame Clamp Outer Piece to position the tube and prevent rotation.

The mounting pole of this DAESSY Rigid Mount with Bent-tube version can be lifted out of the Frame Clamp Outer Piece and removed from the wheelchair leaving only the Frame Clamp assembly attached to the wheelchair frame.

Additionally, the mount can lifted enough to disengage the Index Clamp and swung away from the user through 90º or 180º and then lowered to re-engage the Index Clamp in either of these positions.

UFCOP Version Benefits:

  • Can be positioned in three different aspects - "in use", "egress" and "stowed" but lifting the vertical pole slightly and allowing the mount's own weight to find one of the three positioning aspects. The UFCOP (pictured right) and the Index Clamp on the vertical pole have a pin and hole respectively, which "find" each other when the pole is lifted slightly and rotated.
  • NOT for use on tilting seat systems beyond 15 degrees from vertical

Index ClampDevice Attachment

The mounted device is attached to a matched adapter plateor a specific cradle (purchased separately). It is attached to the Horizontal Tube of the mount assembly by means of the DAESSY Quick Release Base system that secures the device and allows for quick detaching of the device from the mount.

Notes

The DAESSY Rigid Mount with Bent-tube can support equipment that is heavy enough to unbalance an unoccupied wheelchair when swung out to the side. It is recommended to remove the device and/or mount before the wheelchair is vacated.

The DAESSY Rigid Mount with Bent-tube is only suitable for limited Tilt Seat Systems. The vertical tube must not be installed or moved beyond 15° during tilt.
