Details

This keyguard fits the genuine Apple Magic Keyboard only, it is unlikely it fits any other small bluetooth keyboard.

A Keyboard is NOT included - this keyguard is to match an existing or your own keyboard purchased elsewhere.

Compatibility

  • Apple's Magic Keyboard ONLY
  • Please note - there are TWO versions of this keyboard - one from 2015 to 2021 and another (with or without the Touch ID button) from 2021 onwards
  • To see which Magic Keyboard you have inspect the images above and/or below - the keyboards between 2015 and 2021 have squared off corner keys, the boards from 2021 with or without TouchID have rounded corner keys.

Make sure you choose the correct version for your keyboard.

This guard DOES NOT fit the Apple Wireless Keyboard which is a discontinued Apple product and replaced with the Magic Keyboard.  There there is a keyguard for the Wireless keyboard, for that keyguard follow this link ...

Apple's Magic Keyboard released after 2021 - note the Touch ID button and the rounded corner keysApple Magic Keyboard (including with Touch ID) Keyguard (2021-)

This keyguard fits the Apple Magic Keyboard, 2021 and later, both the Magic version and the Magic with Touch ID version with USB-C charging.  This does not fit the Apple Wireless Keyboard, nor the original Apple Magic Keyboard (2015 - 2021) with Lighting charging.

Note in the pictures how the keys in the 4 corners have a much more rounded outside corner.  The Magic Keyboard prior to this has outside corners that were a lot more square.

This keyguard comes with no attachment method.  While gravity will hold the keyguard in place, most users prefer to stick it to the keyboard with tape or a mounting putty like Blu-Tack.  The keypad versions have room for a small amount of suction tape.  The standard versions do not.

Apple Magic Keyboard Keyguard (2015 - 2021)

Apple's Magic Keyboard prior to 2021 - note the squared cornersThis keyguard fits the Apple Magic Keyboard up through early 2021.  The keyboard is rechargeable through the Lightning port on the back.  This does not fit the Apple Wireless Keyboard, nor the Apple Magic Keyboard introduced in 2021 (with USB-C charging), nor the Magic Keyboard with Touch ID.

Note in the pictures how the keys in the 4 corners of the keyboard have squared corners, all 4 being the same.  The Magic Keyboard 3 has much more rounded outside corners on the 4 keys in the corners.  This keyguard will not fit that keyboard.

Thickness and Materials

There is a choice of thickness and materials for your keyguard.

Thickness

Most keyguards are designed to fit around the keys, so if you pick an 1/8" thick material, the top of the keys will be just below the surface of the keyboard.

Many people prefer a material of 3/16" or greater, to give a little more depth to the holes requiring a more deliberate touch.

The 1/4" materials make for even deeper holes.

Material

At 1/8", the options include styrene-acrylics which are flexible but are also matte or oqaque. Pure acrylic at that thickness is too brittle and would not last.

At 3/16" we can use acrylic which is clear, as is 1/4" acrylic.  These thickness of acrylic are very hard but are not flexible, not that flexibility is needed for such a keyguard.

A popular choice is polycarbonate, which has a lifetime guarantee against breakage and nice, bevelled edges which make the keyguard softer to the touch. Polycarbonate is an expensive base material so these keyguards are more expensive too.
